One month after he celebrated his election to the U.S. Senate, Democrat Jim Webb and his wife, Hong Le Webb, welcomed a daughter on Monday.
Georgia LeAnh was born at 12:51 a.m. at Fairfax Hospital, Webb's office announced in an e-mail. The newborn weighed 7 pounds, 3 ounces and measured 21.5 inches long.
Mother and newborn were doing well, Webb's office said.
The child's name is derived from a combination of Webb's maternal grandmother, Georgia Doyle Hodges, and Hong's Vietnamese family name, Le, and a common Vietnamese middle name, Anh.
Georgia joins Hongs daughter Emily and Webbs children Amy, Sarah, Jimmy, and Julia.
In November, Webb won a narrow victory over Republican U.S. Sen. George Allen, tipping control of the U.S. Senate to the Democrats.
Congratulations, Senator-elect Jim Webb. You've got a full plate in front of you, but I know you will make everyone proud. Godspeed to your son Jimmy who is in Iraq, and I send all of my love to you, Hong, Georgia, and the rest of your family.
